Tim Allen Shares His One Big Regret About The Santa Clause 3

Tim Allen is back as Scott Calvin in The Santa Clauses this Christmas, but there is one thing about his previous appearance that he really regrets.

The Santa Clause franchise seemed to have run out of magic when The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause failed to deliver either the audience reviews or the box office results of its predecessors. However, in a surprise return, Tim Allen will be back in the festive move again for the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses, which will see him reprise his role as Scott Calvin.

While discussing his return and the franchise as a whole, Allen talked about the main regret he has about The Santa Clause 3, which is that the movie lost some of its humor, and that could have been easily rectified if only he had shared more time on screen with co-star Martin Short’s Jack Frost. He told The Hollywood Reporter:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“What happened was that we became infected by our own success. [1994’s The Santa Clause] was huge, but we had about $11 for special effects. [2002’s The Santa Clause 2] was an extension of that but now we could put lights in the window because we had more production money. By number three, all we had was money. The story kind of just got bigger and bigger. And the fact that Marty Short and I never did a scene together that was funny, I’m still going huh. That’s the funniest human being I’ve ever been around, other than me, and we never got a shot to do a real big scene together.”

From the trailers and details known about The Santa Clauses, the Disney+ series seems like it may have righted many of the wrongs of the third movie. The humor seems to be flowing, most of the cast is back, and even David Krumholtz is back in the role of Bernard The Elf after sitting out the last movie.

So far, the anticipation for the series is high, and it could well be a case that the 15-year break since The Santa Clause 3 could have been just what the franchise needed. Returning to the role for the first time since 2006, Allen previously spoke about what it was like getting back into the Santa suit and the impact it had on the cast and crew. He commented:

“As I walked on set for the first time in the full regalia, everybody got very quiet, both adults and kids. When I show up dressed in the full suit and everything else, there’s big smiles on people’s faces. Little kids are quiet. I had totally forgotten that. It does feel like Santa’s in the room.”

The Disney+ miniseries will find Tim Allen returning as Scott Calvin aka Santa Claus, alongside Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin, aka Mrs. Claus, Austin Kane as Buddy “Cal” Calvin-Claus, Scott’s youngest son, Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra Calvin-Claus, and David Krumholtz as Bernard the elf. The supporting cast is made up of Kal Penn, Matilda Lawler, Rupali Redd, Devin Bright, Laura San Giacomo and Payton Manning.

The Santa Clauses will premiere with two episodes on November 16 on Disney+.
